The following documents are required for the billing of psychotherapeutic treatment as part of the cost reimbursement procedure with a statutory health insurance fund:

Doctor’s statement: This must be issued by a medical practice and certify the urgency and necessity of the psychotherapeutic treatment.

PTV11: You will receive this form during a psychotherapeutic consultation. These consultations are organised by the responsible kassenärztliche Vereinigung (Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians). Please ask the therapist filling out the form to state the urgency of your case as well as the professional reasons, such as specialisation, that make it necessary for you to be treated in this particular private practice.

Record of unsuccessful attempts to find a therapy placement: A document listing the unsuccessful attempts to find a psychotherapy placement with a statutory health insurance covered psychotherapist. There should be a minimum of five to ten therapy requests for which no response was received, which were rejected or which entailed long waiting times of more than three months. Application for reimbursement of costs: This is the actual application for reimbursement of the costs of medical services received in a private practice due to a system failure in accordance with §13.3 SGBV.

With these documents, the application can be submitted to the health insurance company. It is important that the health insurance company agrees in writing before the therapy begins so that the costs can be reimbursed. The price for a 50-minute session varies between 135.52 and 153.00 euros (according to the GOP), depending on the work involved.
